FAQ

When are applications due?

Apps are due at Application Day, February 5th, between 8am and 2pm.  Apps must be turned in to approved FSM Staff recipients and will be in the Gameroom next to the Loft.

Can I turn my application in early?

Yes, but only if you are unable to do so on Application Day.  Only approved FSM recipients can receive the application, and only completed applications will be received.  Note that there is no priority advantage to turning your application in early.

Can I turn my application in late?

Yes, but your application goes directly to a waiting list. In previous years at Faithbridge, we have utilized the waiting list to fill trip slots, though there is no guarantee.

My student can’t make one of the trainings, should we sign up anyway?

Yes, sign up anyway.  We will make the best decisions possible for team selection.

We don’t have the money for deposit, can we still apply?

Yes, apply anyway.  We will not be cashing deposit checks until the day of the first parent meeting, February 26th.

My student has a scheduling conflict with the dates of a trip, and needs to be dropped off on the trip late (or picked up early). Should we still apply?

Yes, apply anyway, but understand that the priority moves to those who can be apart of the entire trip.  If students are selected but miss a part of their trip, their personal benefit plus that of the team is diminished.

Will my student be able to attend a trip with their best friend?

They can apply, but we cannot guarantee trip preference.  There are simply too many students to be able to give preference for every individual.  Our hope is that students understand the heart of the mission and embrace the relationships that will form in their team.

My student doesn’t want to attend a trip, but we as parents want them to. Should they apply?

No.  Students must be fully bought in to the process and mission, but we can certainly answer any questions for a student to encourage them towards the field.

My spouse wants our student to apply for a journey, but I do not. Should we apply?

Families must be in agreement and fully bought in to their decision together.  The application requires that both parents/legal guardians approve and support their student's decision to pursue a missions journey.

Money is an issue, and we do not feel like we could be responsible for the entirety of the cost for a journey. Should we apply?

Yes.  We do not want money to be what prevents students from joining journeys.  We will walk through fundraising and other options.

Why can’t my student take cell phones or communicate with me while on journeys?

Simply put, it's a distraction.  Mission Journeys are catalysts for growth and a phone call or text from home impedes the learning process.  It is important for a student to be removed from their familiar environment to enjoy all of the experiences these trips are designed to facilitate.  Also, we have found that many times a phone call home often initiates home-sickness, and focus is taken away from the mission.  There is never a time when your student would not be able to call home or be connected by you in the event of an emergency.  Our ministry partners all have phones and our adult leaders are equipped with all contact information.

When is the total balance for a missions journey due?

All journey balances are due in full on Wednesday May 16, with the exception of two.  DR and Montana balances are due June 24.  Please refer to the handbook for cancellation policies and procedures.

Who dispenses my student’s prescription medication?

On 5th-8th grade journeys, adult leaders will dispense your student’s medication. We require the original medication packaging and instructions.

For 9th-12th graders, they are responsible for their own medication, but trip leaders MUST be informed of their usage and dosage.

What if my student needs over-the-counter medication?

Inside the application, you will find an “over-the-counter medication authorization form".  If we have the needed authorization, adults leaders will dispense necessary over-the-counter medication according to label instructions.

My student has a medical condition. Can we apply?

Yes, but we need to have a direct conversation with you and your student before you apply.  Please contact Jason before submitting your application.

What happens if my student violates the mission journey agreement while on a trip?

If a violation is grievous, the student will be sent home at the cost and responsibility of the parents.
